Contract Details: This posting is for one (1), 3 hours per month, continuing, certificated teacher with a special education and teacher of the visually diverse. This assignment begins August, 26, 2026. Benefits and retirement eligibility will be determined upon hire. This position requires on-site work, working remotely is not an option. Any anticipated overtime requires prior approval and this position does not accrue comp-time.

GENERAL SUMMARY To help reduce or eliminate speech, language and hearing deficits that interfere with the individual student's ability to derive full benefit from the district's educational program; to provide services dependent on such factors as student population, needs of particular students, school policy and the availability of other community services; to assess and evaluate student performance and progress to promote effective communication abilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS To effectively perform the essential functions of any position with the District, regular attendance is required and expected.
1. Creates and maintains positive classroom atmosphere to encourage and motivate students to learn essential skills, develop essential attitudes, and experience successful learning.
2. Provides a therapeutic program to meet individual needs of speech and hearing impaired children; provides appropriate individualized programs of therapy to meet individual students' needs and correct existing speech or language impairments.
3. Plans and prepares well-organized series of learning opportunities and activities; establishes objectives; writes Individual Educational Plans (IEP's); plans means for student accomplishment of objectives; implements lesson plans.
4. Provides a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, hearing and language impairments; provides screening and assessment to identify speech impaired children at regular intervals and at specified levels.
5. Assists students in developing self-esteem and responsible behaviors; models appropriate behavior; maintains classroom management; provides fair and consistent classroom management; acknowledges, discusses, rewards, and corrects student behavior; disciplines students as necessary; maintains student safety.
6. Researches, locates, acquires and creates appropriate educational materials and displays for stimulating student learning, adapts and modifies techniques and materials for effectiveness; orders and maintains equipment, supplies and materials.
7. Communicates with students, parents, administrators, counselors, specialists, staff and others on individual student needs and progress; facilitates and participates in problem-solving as needed; maintains effective communication for student benefit.
8. Participates in school and district decisions; works cooperatively and in teams; establishes and maintains effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, administrators and the public; attends meetings, activities and events; serves on committees as appropriate; promotes student learning and achievement; promotes positive public and community relations.
9. Maintains current knowledge of educational research, trends; attends professional development conferences, seminars, classes and inservice activities to keep abreast of developments and improved techniques in the field.
10. Evaluates and records student progress; prepares progress reports as required; administers tests as necessary.
11. Serves as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement; assists and guides teachers in observing, describing and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments; collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy by suggestions for the student's daily activities; provides inservice education and serves as a consultant to teachers and school staff members on topics concerning speech improvement.
12. Keeps thorough ongoing records/logs/reports for the individual student receiving therapy or other school-provided speech services to assure compliance with state and federal rules and regulations; maintains lists of referred, screened and eligible students as well as a directory of outside agencies, consultants, specialists and related services; compiles case history data on those cases where additional family history, health history, early developmental history and environmental history are deemed appropriate; provides reports and interpretations as necessary for program and administrative requirements.
13. Directs the activities of assigned non-certificated personnel as appropriate.
14. Assists in a variety of building management activities, such as supervising halls and play areas, assisting visitors, maintaining a positive school environment for learning and teaching, and related activities.
15. Operates a variety of audio-visual and other equipment related to field of study.
16. Serves as member of instructional team of the District; performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
17. Knowledge of technology appropriate to the level of the assignment, I.e. computer skills, software programs, etc.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS Reports to building Principal/Assistant Superintendent.
MENTAL DEMANDS: Requires substantial planning, development and creativity; effective instructional techniques and knowledge of assigned field of study; judgment in interpreting laws and policies governing special education students; knowledge and skill in designing and conducting effective specialized instruction, remediation, and evaluation; organizational and time management skills; effective communication skills; ability to concentrate amid distraction from classroom activities; capable of performing detailed work in reference to preparation, computation of data and analyzing information both verbally and in written form; exposure to frequent interruptions; adaptability and flexibility to different student learning and behavioral styles and abilities; effective decision-making and problem-solving; ability to work independently; cooperation and ability to work as a team-member; requires self-discipline in behavior and attitude; accurate record-keeping; dealing with distraught, angry or hostile individuals on occasion; must have interest in helping students with their mental, social, physical, and educational needs
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Exposed to diseases carried by students; exposed to student noise levels. Other physical demands vary by position assignment: may require prolonged standing or sitting; may require attending to students' personal hygiene; may require lifting and positioning students; may require restraining out-of-control students; may require assisting students with physical activities; may be exposed to visual display terminal for prolonged periods; may be asked to attend evening meetings or activities; may represent the district on potentially sensitive or controversial matters; occasional bending at waist to floor; lifting/carrying objects weighing up to ten pounds constantly, 11-24 pounds occasionally; 25 and over pounds rarely, assistance may be requested; Good visual ability; Must possess excellent hearing to communicate with disabled students, especially when providing individual instruction to those who may have speech impairments.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience - Master's degree with specialization in speech pathology and/or audiology; valid Educational Staff Associate (ESA) certification. No allowable substitutions.
Licenses/Special Requirements - As specified above, for the specific assignment. Satisfactory background clearance results (fingerprinting required); proof of ability to work in the United States; valid Washington State driver's license.
